About

Why we made this.

The first three years are the stage where the sequence matters most and the advice online is thinnest — plenty of lists of wooden toys, very little about which one to offer when, or why. So we built the thing we couldn't find. Educate With Play is a small independent site about Montessori materials from birth to three, arranged in the order a Montessori guide would offer them.

We publish under the site's name rather than a personal byline, which puts the burden on us to show our working instead of asking you to take someone's word for it. So every page names the sources it draws on and links them where they are public, carries the date it was last reviewed, and can be checked against the originals. We are not AMI- or AMS-trained guides and never say otherwise — where the published sources are clear we follow them, and where they are contested we say so rather than picking a side and presenting it as settled.

What we do bring is a willingness to be specific and to leave things out. A great deal of what is sold as Montessori is not — “Montessori” is not a protected term, and the keyword is attached to pretend-play cleaning sets, light-up activity cubes and rainbow pink towers that vary two qualities at once. Where a product like that is popular, we name it and explain the conflict rather than quietly omitting it. That costs us affiliate revenue on some of the highest-volume searches in this category, which is the clearest signal we can give about how the recommendations are made.

How to hold what you read here

Montessori is descriptive, not prescriptive. Every age range on this site is the middle of a wide distribution, and a child who meets a material three months either side of it is entirely ordinary. If something is being ignored, it is usually a step too hard, a step too easy, or one of too many things on the shelf — not a problem with the child.

Nothing here is medical or developmental advice. If you have a concern about your child’s development, that is a conversation for your paediatrician or health visitor, not a website.
